OZ Arts Nashville

Nashville's Non-Profit Contemporary Arts Center

ARTIST – Tara Walters (website: www.tarawalters.info ) Walters has exhibited at the Horowitz Center (Columbia, Md.), the Cloud Club (Boston, Mass.) and various galleries in Lacoste, France.  She is interested in using natural elements to bring the delicacy of femininity into the power of spirituality. Walters recently moved to Nashville from France.

INSTALLATION DETAILS – Capnomancie is defined as divination by means of smoke. TARA WALTERS has mastered a method for painting with, and interpreting the movement of, smoke as it rises from a flame.  Like a divining rod in expert hands can locate water in the ground, Walters guides candles to harness and capture their ebony clouds onto her canvas.  She allows the unpredictability of the flames to control the thickness and direction of the smoke.  In this way, she reveals imagery within imagery and unveils a world in between worlds.

INSTALLATION DATES – February through March 25.

VISUAL ARTS GALLERY – The Visual Arts Gallery at OZ frequently complements the work presented in our Feature Performing Arts Programs or showcases the work of local visual artists.  Exhibitions are generally on view for a 2-month period and are accessible to the public during weekly business hours and on weekends when events and programs are being presented.  CAPNOMANCIE will be on view through March 25.

FUTURE INSTALLATION (April and May) – The April and May installation will feature works by Emily Clayton inspired by Banning Bouldin’s new choreography for SOUVENIRS. Clayton’s works are being used by Jamie + the Jones to design the costumes for the dancers.  OZ Arts will host performances of New Dialect’s SOUVENIRS on April 1 and 2.
