Meribah Knight is the reporter and host of The Promise podcast from Nashville Public Radio. Before moving to Nashville, she was a staff reporter with Crain’s Chicago Business covering manufacturing in the Rust Belt, aviation, and the economy. Prior to Crain’s, she was a staff reporter with The Chicago News Cooperative, producing the Chicago section of The New York Times. There she covered a wide range of topics including arts and culture, housing, crime, education, and poverty.

Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, O, The Oprah Magazine, and The Chicago Reader. Her radio and multimedia work has been featured on WBEZ, The PBS News Hour, and Chicago Public Television.

A native of Cambridge, Mass., Meribah has a Masters of Journalism from Northwestern University and a BA from New York University. She lives in Donelson with her husband, a photojournalist with The Tennessean, their toddler son, and five cats.

Dr. Ricki Gibbs II

I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change; I am changing the things I cannot accept (Angela Davis). This quote has been the driving force behind Dr. Gibbs’ passion to change lives through the power of a great education. Dr. Ricki Gibbs earned his B.S. in Elementary Education and M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from Tennessee State University. He then went on to earn a Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Leadership and Strategic Change from Lipscomb University. He started his career teaching 3rd grade at Paragon Mills Elementary in Nashville, TN for four years. He served as an assistant principal and principal in Metro Nashville Public Schools and now has the honor of currently leading the transformation work as principal of Warner Arts Magnet Elementary. In 2020, Dr. Gibbs was named Elementary Principal of the Year for Metro Nashville Public Schools and his work at Warner was featured in the WPLN Podcast “The Promise Season 2”. The podcast focuses on racial segregation and Gibbs’s determination to transform his school by implementing an innovative curriculum designed to engage current students and recruit new families to enrollment.
