“Exhilarating…Lightning-quick…Cherishes physical risks and the swift, fearless execution of daunting tasks”

The New York Times

“Silken and steely — not just staking the ground but making it quake.”

Miami New Times

With live music and intensely physical movement that draws from martial arts, Hip-hop, and street dance, choreographer Soon-ho Park and his internationally-acclaimed Bereishit Dance Company create groundbreaking performances that take your breath away. This Seoul-based group is celebrated for its athletic precision and creative choreography, approaching traditional Korean culture from a contemporary perspective.

The program at OZ Arts features two highly visceral signature works:

JUDO
Drawing explosive movement from athletic disciplines like martial arts and track and field, this high-velocity dance work uses sports as a striking frame for instinctive human competition and aggression. The fusion of riveting choreography and irresistible rhythm suggests a tenuous balance between violence and rules, competition and cooperation, and conflict and peace.

BALANCE AND IMBALANCE
Dancers seamlessly partner and then hurtle through space, illustrating the constantly turning wheel of opposition and harmony at the heart of all relationships. Finding balance in seeming opposites like contemporary and classical art forms, the work features a thrilling Pansori (traditional Korean musical storytelling) performance of Sugungga by a charismatic vocalist and two drummers.
